Festive DIY decorating tips your guests will love

Category Knight Frank Lifestyle Property

While you may already have tons of Christmas decorations, adding personal creativeness to your home is sometimes better than flaunting store-bought goods. If making sure that your home is sparkling with festive cheer this December is on the top of your list, you and your guests will love these festive DIY tips:

Light up your home with merry candles
Your home's lighting can set the mood for just about any occasion. Decorated candles grouped together make a great centrepiece for a dining table - adding some Christmas ornaments, garlands, and candles in a bowl will give it the grouped effect. Individual candles with a red and gold ribbons wrapped around them can be placed on a side table to add ambience to the room. As a bonus, scented candles will make the room smell inviting and pleasant.

Tip: Make sure you keep an eye on the candles so that they don't burn down too far or tip over and set objects alight.

Creative gift wrapping
What's more special than giving a loved one a great gift? Wrapping the gift in home-made gift wrap. Using authentic brown paper you can print shapes from cut out potatoes, draw patterns, or stick fancy beads and glitter to give it the festive look you want. Customise it to suit the taste of the person you are giving the gift to. Add final touches with ribbon, string, or a pretty bow.

Use your wrapped gifts as decorations
Let's face it, presents look amazing once they are covered in lovely gift wrappings. Adding your wrapped gifts under the tree will add that Christmas thrill to the décor in the room. There are many ways in which you can wrap your gifts. Use colourful gift wrap, bows, tags, and ribbons to make your gifts into beautiful décor pieces instead of hiding them away in storage. Presents can also be stacked throughout your home on tables, on the steps of the staircase, or any spot that might look dull and boring.

Candy Bars are so this Christmas
Almost everyone enjoys a candy snack or two, so why not tickle their fancy with a tantalising candy bar this festive season. Using a side table for your display, fill clear lidded jars in various sizes with colourful sweets, marshmallows, candy floss, and other treats that your guests will love. When they come over for Christmas dinner they can use scoops and small bags on the table to indulge in their favourite candy choices, as well as take away some candy for the road. Mini Santa chocolates are also a fantastic way to bring in the festive element.

Dinner parties your guests will always remember
You tend to see more of your family and friends during the festive season, and if your home is the designated 'party house' you will want to give your guests an experience that they will never forget each time they come over. To keep the dinner table simple yet elegant, place a Christmas ornament here or there to give it a bit of dazzle. You can further spoil your guests with a Christmas cracker on the main day, along with a recipe printed on small decorative cards which they can take home with them. Fancy name cards on each plate will also make your guests feel remembered and special when visiting your home.
